A prep station for a kitchen with one clear counter
Give the board, bowls, scraps, and drying dishes a place in the same meal, then put the counter back to work.

The short answer
Clear one working patch, keep wet preparation beside the sink, and move ingredients through a board and receiving bowl. A staged layout lets existing tools do several jobs without leaving everything out.
An editorial plan based on published product documentation. Layout examples are illustrative; this is not a physically tested kit.
Clear a place for the next meal
The cutting board comes out, and the toaster has to move. Then a colander arrives, followed by a bowl, and the only clear counter disappears before you cut an onion. Plan which items need that space at the same time.
Start with a vegetable prep session: rinse ingredients, trim and chop them, collect the pieces, then wash and put away the tools. Choose a section of counter near the sink where the board can sit fully supported. Move mail and appliances you will not use to their usual storage places. Keep the sink available for washing.
Take out the knife, board, receiving bowl, and a small bowl for scraps. Leave measuring cups and other tools stored until the recipe calls for them. If you already own suitable versions, try the arrangement with those first.
Give each item a job and a place to return
The core kit needs a cutting surface, a way to drain produce, a bowl to receive prepared food, and a place for scraps. A nesting set combines some storage, but its parts spread out when used. Plan for both states.

| Item | Role during preparation | What to use or check |
|---|---|---|
| Cutting board | Stable chopping surface | Keep a sound board that sits flat. OXO Good Grips 2-Piece Cutting Board Set, SKU 11284600, includes a 7.25-by-10.75-inch Prep Board and a 9-by-12.9-inch Everyday Board, with non-slip feet. Search Amazon for OXO 11284600. |

| Scrap bowl | Collect peelings and stems | Reuse a small washable bowl. Empty it into the appropriate waste collection after prep. |
| Salad spinner, optional | Dry leafy greens during a separate stage | OXO Good Grips white spinner, SKU 32480, has a basket that doubles as a colander. Bring it out when greens justify the space. Search Amazon for OXO 32480. |
| Existing drying rack | Hold washed tools after food leaves the station | Reserve room for the board and separated bowls before starting. |
These are equipment examples, not a required matching set. OXO lists the board set as dishwasher safe. Joseph Joseph lists its set as dishwasher safe and unsuitable for microwave use; transfer food to an appropriate cooking vessel.
Mark a possible layout before buying
For an illustrative layout, assume an unobstructed counter patch 30 inches wide and 24 inches deep beside a sink. Mark a roughly 14-by-10-inch area for the larger OXO board and a 12-by-12-inch area beside it for a receiving bowl. Joseph Joseph lists the nested set at 11.25 inches wide and deep.
Those marked areas are an author's planning example, not manufacturer clearances or a verified allowance for safe knife movement. We have not physically tested the arrangement. Check your actual tools and reach. If your hand or knife crowds the bowl, use a smaller receiving bowl or clear the board between batches.
Keep the board entirely on the counter. An ordinary board should not become an improvised bridge over the sink. Follow its placement instructions, and resolve rocking or sliding before cutting.
Keep wet ingredients and scraps off the cutting area
Place the colander at the sink while rinsing produce that needs washing. Follow package directions for produce labeled pre-washed or ready-to-eat; FDA says it can be used without further washing. Let rinsed ingredients drain before moving them to the board.
Put the receiving bowl on the side where you can transfer chopped food comfortably. The scrap bowl belongs within reach but outside the knife's working area. A back corner may work until reaching over the board becomes awkward. Empty a small scrap bowl during prep instead of enlarging it until it takes over the station.
Use the same pattern in reverse if it suits your hands and sink position. Keep the destination for prepared food distinct from the place where used utensils wait for washing.
Work through one ingredient at a time
For a vegetable soup, drain washed carrots, chop them, and transfer the pieces to the receiving bowl. Clear peelings into the scrap bowl before the next ingredient. When the bowl fills, transfer its contents to the next appropriate vessel and return it for another batch.
For a leafy salad, give the spinner the bowl's counter space while drying greens. OXO lists SKU 32480 at 10.5 by 10.5 by 6 inches. Once that stage finishes, move the greens to their serving bowl and put the spinner aside for washing. The OXO spinner review covers its separate components.
Keep raw meat, poultry, and seafood away from this produce station and its utensils. FDA advises using separate boards for those foods and fresh produce when possible. Wash boards, dishes, utensils, and countertops with soap and hot water between preparing raw animal foods and produce that will be eaten uncooked.
Finish with washing, drying, and storage
After moving the prepared food, empty the scraps and wash the used tools according to their care instructions. Keep the knife visible and separate from a pile of bowls. Give washed pieces a drying position that does not cover food still being prepared.
The nesting set earns its storage space only after the parts are clean and dry. Keep them separated during drying, then rebuild the stack in the cabinet. Joseph Joseph lists the nested height as 5.75 inches; check the shelf opening and the room needed to lift it out.
Return the board to its own storage spot after drying. If it is difficult to wash or put away, use the cutting-board space comparison to reconsider its size and care routine. A drying rack permanently full of prep tools leaves less working room for the next meal.
Replace the item that blocks the sequence
Try the setup for a familiar meal before ordering equipment. Notice where work stops. A bowl may be too wide beside the board, a colander may be awkward beneath the faucet, or the board may lack a drying spot.
Buy for that specific problem. Keep an existing bowl if it receives food comfortably, and skip a spinner if greens are an occasional task. Before choosing either documented set, match the exact model number and dimensions to the listing. Leave the tools in their assigned storage places so the counter is ready for the next use.
